Scotiabank Arena to host mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic for young kids Dec. 12
The Scotiabank Arena in Halifax will be the site of Saturday’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic for young kids as part of the province’s community-based vaccination program.
The clinic will allow parents to safely vaccinate their children outside the healthcare system and will not require the attendance of medical staff, according to the Scotiabank website.
“We are very excited at the level of response that we were surprised by today,” said Dr. David Williams, medical co-ordinator at the Public Health Agency of Canada. “We know the province will be receiving a lot of messages about COVID-19 and we want the public to understand that our priority is the health and well-being of our residents.”
“We’re in the best position in Canada to have this type of experience and the opportunity to reach out to hundreds of kids in the community,” he said.
The clinic will include a demonstration room with a large screen to explain the process to families. The family waiting room will include a space for families to set up tables to hold food for children.
The clinic will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
“We will have vaccine doses to be distributed out in the community, who will be distributed by the Public Health Agency of Canada. This clinic will be about informing the community about the importance of vaccinating against childhood diseases,” said Williams.
The Health Department has issued a call for volunteers to attend the clinic. Applications will be accepted through Sunday, Dec. 13.
The clinic is one of several community-based community vaccines being offered across Nova Scotia. A similar service will be available in Liverpool, Lunenburg, Pictou and Shelburne counties.
A similar clinic in Halifax will be held Dec. 31 at the Halifax Community Health Centre. The location of the event has not yet been announced.
