Man dies in SE D.C. crash while crossing street

A man was killed early Thursday morning when a minivan crashed into him near the intersection of Oregon and Rockland streets in Northeast D.C. A woman and a child in the minivan suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The District Police Department told WUSA9 that the man was crossing Oregon Street near Maryland Avenue Northeast at 1:55 a.m. when the minivan slammed into him. The van was turning left onto Rockland Street when it collided with the man, who died at the scene.

Officers interviewed the van’s driver, a 33-year-old woman. She was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries and released.

Investigators, who have not released the name of the man, are looking into whether alcohol played a role in the collision.

The accident has placed traffic in the area of Oregon and Rockland streets closed for several hours. The Department of Transportation is re-routing traffic while the investigation into the crash continues.
